Burger Lounge [DOCO Sacramento]

The past four and a half years my hubby and I were so busy starting a family that somewhere in there we forgot how to spontaneously date . Not that we really forgot, but more that we didn’t make time for it.  And it’s super important, you know…so we talked about it and we’re working on changing things because we matter too!

Last week I invited him on a lunch date to try out Burger Lounge, which opened up a few months ago at DOCO (Downtown Commons – the reinvented downtown mall area near Golden 1 Center).

Burger Lounge is known as the “original grass-fed burger”. Their focus is on simplicity with the idea that quality of ingredients far exceeds quantity , which I’m sure most would agree with. As described by their website, they craft burgers with “grass-fed beef and cage-free turkey, salads featuring organic spinach and mizuna, a cod sandwich that’s sustainably-sourced” and fries that are a garlic lover’s dream.

A perfect mix of a crunchy exterior with a soft interior, the lightly salted garlic flies are covered with flavoring, not minced garlic (bleh), and after having them, Koda suggested that “serving anything other than garlic fries should be illegal.” They’re that damn good. And they come in the cutest fry container!

The burger itself was fresh. I know that sounds strange when describing a burger but it really was. Not too greasy and heavy as burgers sometimes are, and their simple toppings really lived up to their “high quality” description. We both had the Lounge Burger, topped with Grass-Fed Beef, Organic American Cheese, Fresh or Grilled Onion, Shredded Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, BL 1000 Island – all housed in a warm, fluffy brioche style bun (not sure if it was actually “brioche” but soft and buttery and absolutely delicious).

To match their ambiance, their fountain drinks are all made with cane sugar and you won’t find Pepsi products here, but can opt for a bottled Coke, Sprite, or orange Fanta if you please. Milk and juices are also offered, but their specialty is their house made lemonades. I tried the hibiscus and it was refreshing, but nothing completely mind-blowing in my opinion. Hubs had the orange cane soda which he described as tasting similar to a cream soda.

What we both regret not having tried were the shakes, but to be honest the burger was so filling that we just wouldn’t have enjoyed it to its potential. Next time for sure! They also offer onion rings (or half and half for those who can’t pick between rings and fries), quinoa burgers, paleo style burgers, salads, and kids meals for the littles.

Next time you happen to be in downtown Sacramento, going to a game or a show or just in the mood for a tasty burger, make sure to stop by!  Burger Lounge is located on floor 2 of the DOCO shopping center, near the west escalator – open Sunday thru Thursday, 10:30am to 9:30pm and Friday & Saturday 10:30am to 10:00pm. Aaaand….coming soon…Burger Lounge at the Fountains at Roseville!
